A devastated mother has shared a heartfelt tribute to her 18-year-old son, who tragically lost his life in a serious collision involving a scrambler bike and a car on Sunday, April 20.
Jason Monks, a resident of Jobstown in West Dublin, was riding the scrambler when the accident occurred around 8 p.m. on Citywest Avenue in the Citywest area. Emergency services rushed Jason to Tallaght Hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
His mother, Donna Monks, expressed her overwhelming grief in an emotional message posted online:
“Lord, please let this be a terrible dream. That big, strong boy was my baby, there wasn’t a thing he wouldn’t do for his mammy. My heart is shattered into pieces. I don’t know how to cope. Why my beautiful young man, why?”
She continued:
“My precious boy, how can life ever be the same? 18 years of loving you… the best years of my life. I will love you forever, always my beautiful son.”
Jason’s partner’s grandfather, Mark Luttrell, also shared his sorrow:
“Our granddaughter Shannon lost her partner, and our great-granddaughter Everleigh lost her dad last night. We’re heartbroken for them and for Jason’s family.”
He remembered Jason as a kind and cheerful soul:
“A lovely young man with the biggest heart, and a smile that could lift anyone’s spirits. He was always ready to help someone in need. The posts and videos people are sharing bring comfort during this sad time. We will miss him dearly. Rest in peace, our friend and our family. Watch over us from the clouds.”
A family friend, who launched a GoFundMe campaign in Jason’s memory, wrote:
“Jason was truly one of a kind. Whether it was fixing bikes, mowing lawns, or lending a hand, he never hesitated to help others. This is our way of giving back to someone who gave so much. Jason, you are deeply loved and will be forever missed.”
Gardaí carried out a forensic examination of the crash site, and the road has since reopened. Investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who may have dash-cam footage from the area between 7:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.
